Asia, Here We Come!

Off we go to Asia with our trusty Lonely Planets. The trip starts tonight with a flight to London where we'll first spend 3 days with Peter, Marjolein, and their 3 kids before heading on to Mumbai, India, on Tuesday.

All we need now is to find a Lonely Planet Cambodia and to strip out most of the pages of the Indonesia book. No need to carry any extra weight. We'll wing it in Bangkok without a guide book as we'll just head to Khao San Road where we've been before and can get a map. Singapore - we'll see, all we need is a hotel for one night.

It seems that almost every time we tell someone the countries we are going to, they say, "Oh like Eat, Pray, Love, except without Italy". Without a bookstore in the DR, I can tell you that we came up with the countries on our own. I can also tell you that we were all over the globe, no pun intended, on which countries we would go to. Dropped from the list were Africa (Nairobi to Capetown - I guess we'll do that one when we retire and get to do another big trip again) and China (just not as inspiring to me as India, though we will go there at some point). We also looked at an Intrepid Travel trip called Babushkas, Buddhas, and Beaches - a 100 day trip from St. Petersburg, Russia all the way to Bali, including the Trans-Siberian railway trip to China and then down through many of the countries we are now visting. That trip left too late and we worried about being on a tour for 100 days. Who knows if you'd like the people? But then again, what type of person can go on that type of trip? Probably people we would have liked. Nonetheless we are doing our own trip.

Obviously with the creation of this blog we intend to blog, though it's likely that most of the posts will be without pictures. We can add them in later. Some other names we tossed around for the blog included: riceandnoodles (already taken - bummer), noodlesandrice (available but i think people would always think rice first and mess up the address), asiandelight (already taken and maybe too racy sounding), s-and-v-do-asia (kinda boring). Eventually we landed on this one - fun and a good follow-on to http://www.islandtimeindr.blogspot.com

We're excited and ready to go!
